The 2026 Hamz Cup (third edition) will officially kickoff on Saturday, 6th June at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo with two games.
Mutaasa Kafeero will take on Sanyu D Bags in the opening game (4Pm) while Life Team will battle with Bakuli Car dealers in the late kickoff (7PM).
Sanyu D Bags Managing Director Kweyamba Editor revealed that her team is ready to compete for silverware at the third edition of the competition.
“We have a strong and well prepared team to take part in the competition. We are not here for participation but to compete for silverware. Our aim is to win the trophy this year and I am confident my players will deliver the needed success.” Said Kweyamba
32 teams will take part in the tournament that has attracted attention across the country. Nansana based Buganda Kombucha football team as well as Arsenal fans team are all optimistic ahead of the tournament.
Kalule Wycliffe on behalf of Arsenal fans asserted that they will use the money for charity in case they prevail
“We hope to win the trophy and the prize money as well, we have a strong and talented team ready to outperform all the other teams in the competition. In case we win the money, we shall use it for charity not our personal benefits. “ Said Kalule
This year’s edition builds on the financial growth of the tournament, following a steady increase in prize money from UGX 50 million in the inaugural edition to UGX 100 million in the second.
The UGX100 million token will be distributed amongst the best performing teams and the outstanding players. The champions will smile with Shs30 million, while the runners-up will take home UGX 20 million.
The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive UGX 15 million and UGX 10 million respectively.
Teams finishing between fifth and eighth place will each secure UGX 5 million. In addition, individual accolades have been introduced to incentivize standout performances and fan engagement.
The team with the largest fan base will receive UGX 1 million, while awards for Most Valuable Player, top scorer, best goalkeeper, and best coach each carry cash prizes of UGX. 500,000.
Media recognition has also been factored in, with two outstanding practitioners set to share UGX 1 million.
