Uganda Premier League side Kitara FC are interested in signing goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa who currently plays for Ethiopia’s Adigrat University.
This website understands that Kitara coach Wasswa Bbosa has told the club hierarchy to consider Mutakubwa during this transfer window.
Following Kitara’s Stanbic Uganda Cup triumph over SC Villa, the club President Deo Kasozi revealed that they will be on the market for a top goalkeeper ahead of a busy schedule that will include continental football.
Mutakubwa joined Adigrat University in Ethiopia following expiration of his contract at BUL FC at the end of the 2024/25 season but sources reveal he could welcome a move to Kitara that will see him reunite with coach Bbosa.
In the 2024/25 season which was his final campaign at BUL FC, Mutakubwa made 29 league appearances and 2610 minutes.
Before joining Adigrat University KCCA FC were also interested in Mutakubwa’s signature but both parties failed to reach a compromise.
The Kitara goalkeeping department has Meddie Kibirige who is had a great 2025/26 campaign that saw him concede just two goals in the Uganda Cup. The club is expected to part ways with experienced goalkeeper James Alitho.
Mutakubwa was Uganda Cranes first choice goalkeeper at the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament that was hosted in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania last year.
Mutakubwa has previously played for Kyetume FC, Tooro United, Kirinya Jinja SS (now known as Busoga United), Express FC and BUL FC.
