Gomba Lions roar into 2026 Masaza Cup Final
David GOMBE
Gomba Lions have booked their place in the Masaza Cup 2026 final after eliminating Butambala at the semifinal stage.
The five-time record champions secured a 1-0 victory over Butambala in the second leg of the semi-final played on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, to advance 3-0 on aggregate.

Hassan Waiswa was the hero for the Lions, netting the decisive goal in the 44th minute just before half-time to silence the home crowd who were hoping to overturn the 2-0 first leg defeat.
It was a commanding performance across two legs from Gomba, who showed their championship pedigree to eliminate a resilient Butambala side.
Felix Ssekabuuza’s Lions now await the winner between Bugerere and Kyaggwe in the grand final as they chase a record-extending sixth Masaza Cup title.
Gomba has previously won the Masaza Cup trophy five times in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2020.
Kyaggwe won the first leg meeting against Bugerere 1-0 and the two sides will battle in the return leg on Sunday at Ntenjeru for a place in the final due on 31st of this month at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
