URA begin Ssimbwa’s reign with narrow win over Mbalangu’s UPDF

David GOMBE

URA FC began Sam Ssimbwa’s reign with a narrow 1-0 win over UPDF FC as the two sides faced off on Matchday 8 of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Defender Denis Ssekitoleko scored the all-important goal for the Tax Collectors to mark Ssimbwa’s return with maximum points.

Ssimbwa replaced Jimmy Kintu Mwera, who was sacked by the club over a poor run of results.

The four-time league champions had managed just one win in their opening six matches and were on four points before Tuesday’s triumph.

After a goalless first half, Ssekitoleko gave the Revenue Collectors the lead in the 62nd minute when he headed in an Isma Mugulusi cross.

Ssimbwa’s men held on for their second win of the season and move to seven points, while Hussein Mbalangu, who was facing his former employers URA, sees his army side remain in 11th position after suffering a third defeat of the season.
