12 foreign based players named in Crested Cranes squad to face Algeria

Ayub Khalifa has named a preliminary 36 squad of the Crested Cranes that will face Algeria in the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Khalifa who serves as the team’s coach in the capacity of assistant coach, named 12 foreign based players in the squad of 36.

These include the Denmark based trio of Vanessa Karungi, Phiona Nabbumba and Aisha Nantongo who recently joined Aalborg BK from Kawempe Muslim.

Sandra Nabweteme joined Turkish side Kdz Eregli Belediye Spor from Israel while Viola Nambi also moved to Pomigliano FC in Italy after leaving Sweden’s IFK Kalmar.

Others are; Ruth Aturo, Reticia Nabbosa, Joanita Ainembabazi, Joan Nabirye, Tracy Jones Akiror, Fauzia Najjemba and Anitah Namata.

The contingent of local based players is dominated by Kampala Queens and Kawempe Muslim.

The team will face Algeria in a two legged qualifier with the first leg to be hosted at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on 16th September and the second leg a week later in Algiers.

The aggregate winner of the encounter will face the winner between Burundi and Ethiopia in the final qualification round.

The team will officially enter residential camp on Wednesday (tomorrow) to embark on preparations.
