After missing out on Cameroon 2021, the Uganda Cranes will aim to return to Africa’s biggest showpiece when Ivory coast hosts the tournament in June and July next year.
They will however have to negotiate a somewhat tough group that has 2019 champions Algeria, boggy neighbors Tanzania and West African side Niger.
It will be Uganda’s first meeting with the 44th FIFA ranked team since that famous victory in 1998 when the Cranes beat Algeria at Nakivubo thanks to a Hassan Mubiru double.
Another team synonymous with Uganda is neighbors Tanzania who held the Cranes to a goalless draw at Namboole before beating them in Dar Es Salam.

It was a group L qualifiers match to AFCON 2019.
The other nation is Niger who are also not new to Uganda’s path in the recent past.
48 countries have been drawn in Johannesburg South Africa based on the FIFA rankings released on March 31st.
The events will kick off this June and the two teams that top each group will progress for the final tournament in Abidjan.
Defending champions Senegal are in group L alongside Benin, Mozambique and Rwanda.
