Ayiekoh’s Simba Queens miss out on bronze in Women’s Champions League

Simba Queens were unfortunate not to win at least a bronze after losing to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens 1-0 in the third place play-off of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Rabat.

The Charles Ayiekoh coached side came into the contest after losing their semi final duel 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Coming into the third play-off match, Ayiekoh became the first CECAFA to reach this stage after Vihiga Queens failed to make it past the group stages last year.

Simba’s most clear chances fell to their captain Opa Clement Tukumbuke and Asha Djafari who failed to hit target.

It was Sunday Juliet who scored the lone goal that won it for the Nigerians from Mercy Itimi’s cross in 70th minute.

Their goalkeeper Bawou Gabrielle was also named the Woman of the match following her outstanding exploits.

Morocco’s AS FAR won the Women’s Champions League title after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 in the final on Sunday.
