Aziz Damani cruise past Ceylon Lions to retain National T20 title

Ceylon Lions won by 50 runs.

2nd semifinal result:
Aziz Damani 146/4 13 overs
Wanderers 59/7 13 overs
Damani won by 87 runs

Final Result:
Aziz Damani 164/8 20 overs
Ceylon Lions 145/7 20 overs
Damani won by 19 runs

Aziz Damani cruised past Ceylon Lions in the finals of national Men’s T20 League by 19 runs in a competitive encounter at the Kyambogo Cricket Oval.

To reach the final, Ceylon beat Challengers by 50 runs in the semifinal while Damani were victors over Wanderers by 87 runs

In the final Damani won the toss and elected to bat first, Wasim Butt delivered some nasty blows at the top but wickets falling in clusters had them on the ropes at 87/6.

Captain Saud Islam and Fred Achellam steadied the ship to help Damani post 164/7 in their 20 overs.

In the chase Ceylon Lions came hard Kenyan International Alex Obanda with some hard hitting upfront but the second wicket partnership of Robinson Obuya and Deus Muhumuza took the game to Damani. However, the wicket of Obuya slowed down the chase leaving alot of work for Deus Muhumuza who remained unbeaten on 63. In the end Ceylon Lions falling short by 20 runs.

Damani crowned champions for the fourth time. This year’s tournament that was however affected by the horrendous Covid-19 in June and had to be stopped close to the knockout stage.

Cricket Cranes opener Simon Ssesazi was named as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
