CAF appoints famous South African referee for TP Mazembe, Vipers Champions league return leg

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed South African referee Victor Miguel de Freitas Gomes for the CAF Champions league return leg fixture between TP Mazembe and Vipers SC.

Gomes will handle the mouthwatering contest on Saturday, 15th October at the Stade TP Mazembe, Lubumbashi.

For starters, the South African referee was in charge of the Africa Cup of Nations Final between Senegal and Egypt in February this year in Cameroon. Gomes was also in charge of the 2022 CAF Champions league final between Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca in May.

He is also among the 8 Africa officials who are going to officiate at the 2022 Global Showpiece in Qatar

Zakhele Thusi Granville Siwela (South Africa) and Souru Phatsoane (Lesotho) are the first and second assistants respectively.

Jelly Alfred Chawani, also from South Africa, will be the Fourth Official while Jean Medard Kossa will be the Match Commissioner.

Democratic Republic of Congo’s Jean-Pierre Kakala Bungi will be the Covid-19 Officer.

The two sides played out to a goalless stalemate in the first leg at Kitende. The winner on aggregate will prevail to the group stages of the competition while the losers will drop to the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs.
