CAF CL: Onyango, Sundowns eliminated as semi finalists are confirmed

Mamelodi Sundowns were shockingly eliminated by Angolan giants Atletico Petroleos de Luanda after drawing 1-1 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Atletico had won the first leg 2-1 in Luanda and therefore qualified to the semi finals with a 3-2 aggregate.

Sundowns missed a penalty in the 45th minute as Themba Zwane hit the woodwork.

Four minutes into the second half, Kenyan defender Brian Onyango broke the deadlock for the South African champions.

The Angolans equalized through Brazilian forward Tiago Azulao who sent Dennis Onyango the wrong way from a penalty in the 64th minute.

Atletico will renew acquaintances with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the semi finals since both sides face off in the group stages.

The other semi final will see holders and record champions Al Ahly facing Algerian side ES Setif who eliminated Esperance de Tunis.

Al Ahly eliminated Raja Casablanca 3-2 on aggregate.

The semi finals will be played between 6th- 7th May with the second legs coming a week later.
