David GOMBE

Vipers played out to a goalless stalemate with TP Mazembe in their first leg encounter of the CAF Champions league preliminary round at St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The visitors were the dominant side with their President Moise Katumbi watching in the stands at Kitende.

The home side struggled to keep possession and failed to threaten the visitors.

Vipers will have to thank their custodian Alfred Mudekereza who was forced into numerous saves in the second period.

Mudekereza shined in Vipers stalemate at Kitende

TP Mazembe second half substitute Mesach Masengo forced Mudekereza into a fantastic save with a powerful shot outside the box.

Vipers finished the game with ten men after second half substitute Ibrahim Orit was stretched off in the closing minutes of the game.

In the second leg due next weekend, the Venoms only need at least goal stalemate to eliminate the five time CAF Champions league winners and cruise to their competition group stages.

Defeat for the Uganda Premier league champions will see them drop to the CAF Confederation Cup playoff round.
