CAF suspends four TP Mazembe players ahead of clash against Vipers

SINAN RAJUB SENOGA

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has suspended four TP Mazembe players ahead of the CAF Champions League final qualification round encounter against Ugandan champions Vipers.

Three of the four players have been handed heavy punishments for attacking Senegalese referee Ndiaye Maguette during Mazembe’s 4-1 semi final defeat to RS Berkane during last season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The three players have been suspended for four CAF Inter-club games. These are; Zambian defender Kabaso Chongo and midfielders Christian Koffi Koume and Phillipe Kinzumbi.

The fourth player is Zambian defender Tandi Mwape who got sent off during the afforementioned game following a second bookable offense.

Mwampe will only miss one game which is the first leg encounter against Vipers at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The suspension of Chongo, Mwape and Koume is a big blow to the Congolese giants while Kinzumbi’s absence was highly expected since he has not been part of the team’s pre-season preparations due to contractual reasons.

Vipers will host TP Mazembe on Sunday 9th October before meeting in the return leg six days later in Kamalondo, Lubumbashi in DR Congo.
