Uganda’s representatives St.Mary’s Kitende received a heroes welcome after their U-15 CECAFA Zonal CAF African Schools Championship triumph.

Kitende needed a 4-2 shootout win to overcome Tanzania after a 1-1 draw in the final that was played in Kenya.

Following their triumph, the team was welcomed at the School premises on Saturday by the Assistant Executive Director Claire Mulindwa.

She congratulated the team upon the milestone and promised early preparations for the African championship due in April next year.

“I thank our players for representing Uganda, the school as well as yourselves. Thank you for being committed and I thanks the technical team for loving sports and these young boys. We are going to start early preparations for the continental tournament and we only want to win that trophy.” Said Claire Mulindwa

The school rewarded each member on the winning team with Flat Screen TVs and cash.

After clinching the title, Kitende also pocketed a massive USD.100,000 (about 370 million shillings) and also qualified for the CAF African Schools Championship slated for 2024.

Kitende’s Ashiraf Kyakuwa was the MVP while Wanyama Simon finished the tournament’s top scorer with 7 goals.
