Uganda’s long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has launched a 100 days fundraising drive to complete an athlete training centre in Kapchorwa.
Cheptegei who recently won Olympic gold in the 5000m and silver in the 10000m at the just concluded Tokyo games says that he needs Shs1.7bn to complete the construction of the training facility.
He confirmed the development at Serena Hotel in Kampala on Thursday afternoon

He also confirmed that he has so far spent Shs1.9bn towards the construction of the facility. Construction works started in November, 2018 and it is now at 60%.
“Over the last years, I have dedicated my winnings from the race track towards the construction of a training centre that is built to international standards and can act as a vehicle for young athletics talent in Uganda and beyond to achieve their dreams, like mine, of winning.”

On the 100 days public fundraising
“We have launched a 100 days public fundraising drive to raise 1.7 billion shillings towards the completion of this project. The money will go towards the construction of a world class hostel facility with fitness and other related equipment for athletes in the region and globally.”
“We also envision, a museum for Ugandan athletes that will continue to attract both tourists and teach the values and ethics of Ugandan athletes while authentically telling their story.”
“We call upon all Ugandans here and in the diaspora, corporate companies and well wishers to join this drive to nurture the next generation of runner in our country.”
