COSAFA U-17 : Rampant Uganda pummel Comoros 20-0

Uganda finished top of Group A table after obliterating Islanders Comoros 20-0 at the MFA technical center, Mauritius.

Juliet Nalukenge (7 goals), Margret Kunihira (5 goals), Fauzia Najjemba (4 goals), Shakira Nyinagahirwa (3 goals) and defender Gilian Akadinda (one goal) were all on target for the Ayub Khalifa coached team.

Just like in the previous game against Mauritius, Kunihira opened up the scoring spree with a brace as early as the first four minutes

Nalukenge converted from the penalty mark in the 10th minute before making it 4-0 towards the 20th minute mark.

Kunihira scored twice in the 22nd and 25th minutes before Nalukenge made it 8-0 with two goals at hour mark.

The half time break came when Uganda is leading 14-0 after Nyinagahirwa scored a hat trick while Nalukenge grabbed her 5th goal of the day.

Olila High’s right back Gilian Akadinda also registered her name on the score sheet while Najjemba’s first goal came in the added one minute.

The resumption saw the junior Crested Cranes start from where they had stopped. Nalukenge made it 15-0 eight minutes into the second stanza.

At 15-0 Nyinagahirwa was rested for Maureen Nangozi in the 57th minute while Kevin Nakachwa also paved way for Summayyah Komuntale.

Kunihira stretched the scoreline to 16-0 with her fifth goal in the 64th minute.

Two minutes later, debutant Samalie Nakachwa of Kawempe Muslim was also rested for Katuuso’s Catherine Nagadya.

Najjemba scored three goals on succession in a space of seven minutes making it 19-0 before Nalukenge finally put the icing on the cake.

The team captain converted from the penalty mark to take her tally to seven goals in the match and 14 in the whole tournament.

For the second time in the tournament, Nalukenge was named the player of the match at the end of the game.

Nalukenge together with Nyinagahirwa, Kunihira and Najjemba were all given a match ball each for scoring more than two goals.

Uganda finish with a goal difference of 31 compared to their counterparts Zambia who had 23.

The U-17 Crested Cranes will wait for the runners up of group B (Botswana or Madagascar) in the semi final slated for Friday 27th September at the Francois Xavier stadium.

Zambia will play against South Africa in the other semi final.
