The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has decided to postpone the 2020 Pearl of Africa Rally to 2021.

The development was confirmed in a document signed by FMU General Secretary Irene Blick

“As we are all aware, the Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc globally and as a result many countries including Uganda announced a lockdown and a ban on all sports and other gatherings. This led to the suspension of a number of events on our calendar.

“It’s our responsibility to follow government orders not to gather and work with government to fight the current pandemic and support them in the quest to save lives.”

Discussions were done with the FMU Executive and supporting partners, who all agreed with us that the economic down turn restrictions on movement, all cannot allow us to run the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally to the standards required for a world class event.”

“More so we cannot anticipate when the ban on social gathering will ever be lifted and so we can only wait for things to normalise to resume preparations.

Based on this, we wrote to FIA Africa and requested to reschedule the event to next year.” Read the statement.

The Federation however, remains hopeful to continue with the National Championship once things normalise.
