Double Commonwealth champion Kiplimo wins 2022 Great North Run in England

Double Commonwealth champion Jacob Kiplimo clinched the 2022 Great North Run on Sunday, 11th September in England.

The Uganda won the 21Km race in a time of 59 minutes and 32 seconds.

He beat Ethiopians Selemon Barega and Kenenisa Bekele who were second and third respectively.

10000m Olympic champion Barega was making his debut on the road, he timed 1:00:39 while Bekele recorded 1:01.1 to finish third.

Meanwhile, Kenyan Hellen Obiri Obiri successfully retained her Great North Run women’s title. She outsprinted Olympic gold medallists Peres Jepchirchir and Almaz Ayana.

Obiri won in a time of 1:07:05, Jepchirchir finished second in 1:07:07 while Ethiopia’s world and Olympic 10,000m champion was third in 1:07:10.

The two races began with a moment of silence in tribute to UK’s iconic leader Queen Elizabeth II who passed away on Thursday.
