Double Olympic champion survives plane crash in Kenya

Retired athlete David Rudisha survived a plane crash in Kajiado County in South East Kenya on Saturday.

The former double Olympic 800m champion was in plane with five others.

All was well close to seven or eight minutes into the flight when the engine of the plane suddenly went quiet.”

“He (the pilot) saw some clear space where he tried to land the plane, but one of its wings hit a tree as the plane started to spin before landing on the rocky field.

“The pilot did an incredible job to keep the plane afloat and stable for long.” Rudisha said as quoted by the Daily Nation

Rudisha was returning from the annual Maasai Olympics at Kimana Wildlife Sanctuary in Kajiado County.

Stephen Ole Marai who was also on the plane was taken to hospital for advanced treatment after he sustained injuries on his rib.

Rudisha won gold at the London games in 2012 and Rio 2016. He is now an athletics coach after retiring from top level athletics.
