Egypt glides to last 16s as Nigeria clinches 100% winning record

Egypt booked a placed in the knock stages after beating Sudan 1-0 in their final Group D game played at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.

Defender Mohamed Abdelmoneim scored the lone goal that settled the dull encounter. He headed home Abdallah Said’s well delivered corner kick in the 35th minute.

The Pharaohs finished second on the table with six points having scored only two goals.

In the last 16 stage, the Carlos Quieroz coached men will face the winners of Group E potentially Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea or Sierra Leone.

In the other Group D game played at Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua, Nigeria beat Guinea Bissau 2-0 to clinch a 100% winning record.

Striker Umar Sadiq and captain William Troast Ekong scored the goals for the Super Eagles in the 56th and 75th minutes respectively.

They finished top of the group with nine points having won all their three group games while Guinea Bissau and Sudan finished with a point apiece.
