Uganda kicked off their FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers with a 76-66 defeat to Mali on Friday in Benguela, Angola.

The Silverbacks who arrived in Angola on Thursday struggled against the West Africans despite Brandon Davies’ double double.

This was Mali’s third straight win over Uganda having won their previous two meetings during the 2019 World Cup Qualifiers.

Davies impressed with 24 points, 16 rebounds and five assists.

Titus Lual (12) and Eric Rwahwire (11) were also outstanding reaching double figures but the rest had minimal impact as Uganda struggled over the West African side.

The Silverbacks failed to execute with most of the plays not well designed to expose the West Africans.

Uganda will next face Cape Verde on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, the other pool A contest played on Friday saw Cape Verde defeat Nigeria 79-71.
