Former Cranes Captain Sekagya appointed New York Red Bulls II Interim Head Coach

Former Uganda Cranes captain Ibrahim Sekagya has been appointed as Interim Head Coach of New York Red Bulls II for the remainder of the 2022 USL Championship season.

New York Red Bulls II parted ways with Gary Lewis, effective immediately, the club announced today and will be replaced by the former Cranes defender.

He is currently serving in his eighth season as an assistant Coach at Red Bulls II and has filled in as Head Coach for three matches during that span.

The former New York Red Bulls defender retired in 2015 after making 33 appearances with the club.

The former Cranes skipper spent six seasons at Red Bull Salzburg, where he won three Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup championship.

New York Red Bulls II will travel to face Louisville City FC on Saturday, July 9 which will be Sekagya’s first game in charge.

He featured in 35 Uganda Cranes matches between 1999 to 2011 when he retired from international football scoring 3 goals.
