SINAN RAJUB SENOGA

League action across the globe resumed over the weekend following an international break. A number of Ugandan players featured for their respective clubs most notably Steven Sserwadda who made his debut for his new club New Four York Red Bulls II.

Mahad Kayondo (Romania), Boban Bogere Zirintusa (Tanzania), Shafiq Batambuze (Zambia) and William Wadri (Kenya) scored for their respective clubs.

CAF Champions League

Left back Joseph Ochaya played full-time for TP Mazembe who played a goalless draw against AmaZulu in South Africa on Friday.

Striker Deogracious Ojok came off the bench in the 60th minute as Tusker lost 1-0 to Egyptian champions Zamalek SC in Nairobi. Ojok replaced Humphrey Mieno.

Taddeo Lwanga played full-time for Tanzanian champions Simba SC who beat Jwaneng Galaxy 2-0 in Botswana. Lwanga was involved in the first goal which was scored by John Bocco in the second minute of the game.

Dennis Onyango was captain as Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 2-2 draw by Union Maniema in DR. Congo.

CAF Confederation Cup

Goalkeeper Cleo James Ssetuba and striker Mathew Odong Tayo played in Biashara United’s 2-0 win over Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli in Dar es Salaam.

Left back Fred Nkata Jr played full-time for Gor Mahia who got a 3-1 first leg advantage over Sudan’s Al Ahli Merawi in Egypt. Peter Lwasa didn’t feature for the Kenyan giants since he wasn’t registered for the tournament.

In Dar es Salaam, Nicholas Wadada and goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya played full-time for Azam FC in a goalless draw against Egyptian side Pyramids FC.

Lawrence Ndugga didn’t feature for Orapa United of Botswana who won 2-1 over Coton sport in Gaborone.

Goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi was in goal for Red Arrows and registered a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Angola’s Primeiro Agosto in Zambia.

DR Congo

Allan Kateregga came off the bench in the 70th minute as his FC St. Eloi Lupopo beat AS Simba 2-0 in the Congolese Linafoot. Kateregga replaced Rodriguez Masini.

Denmark

Midfielder Moses Opondo played 62 minutes before he was withdrawn as his OB Odense lost 2-1 to Randers in the topflight. He was replaced by Troels Klove.

Robert Kakeeto played full-time for Skive IK and won 2-1 against Aarhus Fremad in the third tier.

Goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi is still recovering from the injury she got a week ago. She didn’t feature for B93 Copenhagen Women as they lost 2-1 to Subdby in the women’s second tier.

Czech Republic

Cranes left back Isaac Muleme didn’t play for Viktoria Zizkov in their 2-1 defeat to MFK Chrudim in the second tier.

Algeria

Allan Okello was part of the starting team as Paradou AC lost 2-1 to USM Alger in a pre-season friendly match.

Kenya

William Wadri scored one of Bandari’s goals in a 3-2 victory over Bidco United in the Kenya Premier League.

Wadri was on target in the 44th minute while his compatriots Umaru Kasumba and Rogers Aloro also played full-time.

Rwanda

Ben Ocen was part of the Musanze FC team that lost 2-0 to Police FC in a friendly game.

Ethiopia

Robert Odongkara was not part of the Jimma Abba Jifar team that lost 1-0 to Hawassa City in the opening match of the 2021/22 Ethiopia Premier League.

England

Jordan Obita played full-time for Wycombe Wanderers who won 2-0 over Doncaster Rovers in the English League One.

Romania

Striker Mahad Kayondo scored his second goal for his new club CSM Deva in their 4-1 win over Ezeri in the third tier. Kayondo was on target in the 81st minute.

Scotland

Defender Bevis Mugabi was part of the Motherwell FC team that lost 2-0 to Celtic on Saturday. Mugabi was booked for foul play in the 90th minute.

Israel

William Kizito Luwagga played 45 minutes before he was replaced by Elad Shahaf as his side Hapoel Nof HaGalil lost 3-1 to Hapoel Haifa on Saturday.

Striker Fahad Bayo played full-time in Ashdod’s 1-0 defeat to Bnei Sakhnin. His teammate Timothy Awany was an unused substitute.

Germany

Herbert Bockhorn was not part of the Vfl Bochum team that won 1-0 over Greuther Furth in the Bundesliga.

USA/MLS

Mustafa Kizza came off the bench to provide a last minute assist for striker Ibrahim Sunisi as CF Montreal drew 2-2 with Philadelphia Union. Kizza had replaced Mathieu Choiniere nine minutes earlier.

Mike Azira replaced Andrew Tinari in the 57th minute as New Mexico United drew 1-1 with San Diego Loyal SC in the second tier.

Former KCCA winger Steven Sserwadda finally made his debut for New York Red Bulls II in their 1-1 draw with FC Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL (second tier).

Sserwadda played 17 minutes after coming on for striker Luther Archimede in the 73rd minute.

Striker Edward Kizza played the full 90 minutes as his New England Revolution II team lost 1-0 to Greenville Triumph.

Tracy Jones Akiror and Yudaya Nakayanze played for Lindsey Wilson in a 1-0 win over Bethel University.

Spain

David Owori is recovering from injury and didn’t feature for Velez CF as they won 1-0 against UD Montijo in the fourth tier.

Likewise, defender Victor Matovu didn’t play for Real Oviedo B as they won 1-0 against UD Gijon Industrial in the fourth tier division.

South Africa

Goalkeeper Ismail Watenga was in goal for Chippa United as they lost 4-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership.

Moses Waiswa was an unused substitute as Supersport United won 2-0 against Baroka FC on the same day.

Jamal Salim Magoola was in goal as his new side Pretoria Callies won 6-1 against Cape Town Spurs in the GladAfrica Championship.

Serbia

Pius Obuya was involved in a build up that saw his side Kabel Novi Sad score in the 7th minute as they drew 1-1 with FK Loznica in the second tier.

Sweden

Ronald Mukiibi and Isaak Sewankambo didn’t play for the Ostersunds FK side which lost 3-0 Malmo FK in the topflight.

Alexis Bbakka played full-time and got booked in the 40th minute as his side Umea FC won 2-1 against Gefle IF in the third tier.

Viola Nambi is recovering from injury and was not part of the Vaxjo DFF squad that lost 5-0 to Linkopings in the Women topflight.

Likewise in the second tier Ritah Kivumbi didn’t play for her club Mallbackens IF after sustaining an injury in the previous game. Mallbackens won 1-0 against Sundsvall without her.

Portugal

Edrisa Lubega didn’t play for the Estrela da Amadora team that won 2-1 over Louletano DC in the third round of the Taca de Portugal on Saturday.

Ugandan left back Alex Kakuba also didn’t feature for the losing side.

Tanzania

Boban Bogere Zirintusa scored his first goal of the season as his club Mtibwa Sugar drew 1-1 with Geita Gold. Zirintusa was on target in the 64th minute.

Jackson Kibirige was part of the Kagera Sugar starting team that drew goal-less with Mattia Lule’s Mbeya City. Yayo Lutimba did not feature for Mbeya City.

Zambia

Defender Shafik Batambuze scored for Kabwe Warriors in their 2-1 win over Green Eagles. Batambuze headed home a Jimmy Ndlovu corner kick in the 66th minute.

His teammate and fellow countryman Hashim Sempala was brought on for striker Ali Sadiki in the 84th minute.

Keziron Kizito played full-time in Buildcon FC’s 0-0 draw with Nkwazi.

Left back Ronald Nkonge was not part of Nkana FC’s match day squad that won 1-0 against Zesco United.
