How and where will Disan Galiwango fit in at Vipers SC?

Galiwango arrived at Express FC as a boy and left as a man

After months of speculation linking him to a series of clubs including KCCA FC, Wakiso Giants and a host of others abroad, Vipers finally won the battle and signed Disan Galiwango on a four-year deal.

The former Simba FC and Water FC left-back was signed by Kefa Kisala who had immense belief and confidence in him at the start of the 2018/19 season especially because of his composure, defensive and offensive qualities.

Kisala’s trust in the young defender was exhibited in his decision to start an inexperienced Galiwango ahead of Arthur Kiggundu who had a few seasons under his belt

Galiwango was first capped by Fred Kajoba at Simba FC who preferred to play him as a forward employed on the left wing but when he signed for Kisala, the left-back position became his own and he quickly won over the hearts of the Red Army and ultimately a fans darling.

Kefa Kisala signed Galiwango for Express

” Galiwango is a very committed and disciplined young fella with whom I loved to work”.

Kisala said

“He comes from a football family and he is naturally talented. To me, his best position is left-back because he is more comfortable in ascendency and great in one on one situations ”

He added

“I know he will be very useful to Vipers SC especially if employed in his preferred and most comfortable position. He made his name there and it’s from there that he earned his first national team call up”.

It should be remembered that following Kisala’s exit at Express, George Ssimwogere the successor preferred to use Galiwango as a winger due to his ability to cross the ball.

The player himself admits that despite being able to play in various positions both in defense and attack, he would be more comfortable playing on the left side of defense.

“I believe I am naturally a defender, I played there during the school times and also thrived there under coach Kefa (Kisala).

“However, I have confidence in my footballing abilities and very comfortable to play anywhere on the pitch as may be required by the coaches”. He added.

Aziz Kayondo is currently Vipers’ first choice left back

Vipers SC will be challenging in the CAF champions league, a challenge that has not been rosy for the Kitende based side.

Pressure will be on Galiwango and his compatriots to deliver on a stage that even their more gifted talents have failed.

In his preferred left-back position is fan-favorite Aziz Kayondo, who had a very stellar season for Vipers.

Dan Birikwalira returns from the loan spell at Bright stars

Kayondo is blessed with great athleticism and a ferocious appetite for going forward. His crosses are decent too.

Another competitor if retained will be the experienced Farouk Musisi Kizito. He had a good start at Vipers until injuries ruined rhythm.

Former captain and legend Dan Birikwalira is returning from a loan spell at Kyetume. His abilities need no introduction, he is blessed with bags of pace, trickery and delivers inch-perfect crosses in a direct style.

Abdul Karim Watambala has made the left side of midfield his own

Birikwalira also worked with Kajoba at Bright Stars in the 2018-19 season.

Going forward, Vipers are well stocked with exciting wingers like Abdul Karim Watambala, Allan Kayiwa and Abraham Ndugwa is occasionally employed there.
