Uganda U20 head coach Jackson Mayanja is optimistic that his young beleaguered troops will do everything possible to win their first AFCON U20 Zonal Qualifiers group B match against Tanzania on Saturday.

Mayanja says that it is always important to win the first game in the competition. The Hippos will lock horns with Tanzania at the Al Hilal Stadium on Saturday at 7Pm.

“Like any other team of nation, the boys are prepared and have done what it takes to win the first game as they bid to retain the glory they achieved some years back. We need to win the first game since if you win the first game then you stand a chance of advancing to the Semifinal.”

“The conditions are hot but we have tried to talk to them about it and they are generally fine and we have no injury heading into the game.” Said Mayanja

The Hippos will be hoping to defend their title they won two years ago in Tanzania as well as making a return to the U20 continental Showpiece slated for next year in Egypt.

The U20 side reached the AFCON U20 finals in the last edition in 2021 in Mauritania, losing to Ghana 2-0.
