The Uganda U-18 National Basketball Women team (Junior Gazelles) has been flagged off ahead of the FIBA Africa U-18 Championship which will run from August 4th-14th in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
The team has been having a residential training at the Africa Bible University Campus in Lubowa under the stewardship of head coach Mavita Ali and assistant Roger Serunyigo.
Mavita is confident the team will deliver success in Madagascar
“I thank the players for the cooperation, they are well prepared for the games. I expect the team to put up great performances and we hope to finish among the best four teams.” Said Mavita

FUBA General Secretary Hudson Ssegamwenge has thanked the government for the support
“We are thankful to the government for supporting our Junior sides and it gives a great foundation for the growth of our game in the country.”
On why the team left late

“We got the money late and that’s why we have left late for the tournament but above all we hope for the very best.” Stated Ssegamwenge
Uganda is in Group A alongside hosts Madagascar, Algeria and West African side Mali whereas group B has Egypt, Tanzania, Guinea and Angola.
The team will depart for Madagascar on Friday, August 5th and will be aiming to finish among the top teams to progress to the FIBA U18 World Cup due this year.
