Former IBF Junior Middleweight world champion Kassim Ouma “The Dream” will be taking on Kenyan Rayton Okwiri in a 10 round fight dubbed ‘Rumble in Kampala’ at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The fight will take place on 26th December and will be graced by artists King Saha and Winnie Nwagi.

At the official launch on Wednesday, Stephen Sembuya the CEO of the 12 Sports round promotion company urged Ugandans to come and cheer Ouma.

“I call upon fellow Ugandans to come and cheer on an icon of this great game of Boxing. Many Ugandans have never seen him fighting live, this is the opportunity for everyone. As 12 Sports round we promise the very best at the fight night in Lugogo.” Said Sembuya.

The Netherland-based Ugandan pugilist will enter the ring for the second time in his native country.

Ouma’s last fight in Uganda was in 1999 when he knocked out featherweight Muhamad Kayongo during the national Open Championship in Lugogo.

This will be the first ever professional fight for Ouma in Uganda and his third on the African soil.

His opponent Okwiri (8-0-1, 6 KOs) made his Pro-debut in February, 2017 when he defeated Salehe Mkalekwa in Nairobi.

Okwiri won the African Boxing Union middleweight title on June 8th, 2019 when he beat Hussein Itaba.

Briefly on Ouma

According to the Boxrec, Ouma has won 29 fights 18 by KOs, lost 18 and drawn once in the 49 Pro fights.

Kassim Ouma, 44, held the IBF junior middleweight title from 2004 to 2005, and challenged twice, for a world middleweight title in 2006 and 2011 as a former champion and top-level contender in the Light Middleweight division. In his career, he had quality wins against Jason Papillion, Juan Carlos Candelo, and Verno Phillips, earning himself the IBF Light Middleweight title and fame.

Ouma successfully defended his championship with a twelve-round unanimous decision against Kofi Jantuah of Ghana. He lost his title in a unanimous decision defeat against Roman Karmazin, a bout in which he was put to the canvas twice. It was only the second defeat of his career. Since the Karmazin bout, Ouma remained active in the Light Middleweight division, earning three wins, two by knockout.
