The Katikkiro of Buganda Owek.Charles Peter Mayiga has revealed the reasons why the Kabaka birthday run was not held yesterday.

Usually, the birthday run is always held on the preceding Sunday before Kabaka’s birthday.

Mayiga told the media during a press briefing at Mengo on Monday that the run did not take place on Sunday, 10th April since the Kabaka is out of the country and the birthday kits are still with the customs department

“The day after tomorrow will be the Kabaka birthday, he will be turning 67 years. As you maybe aware, every Sunday preceding the Kabaka birthday is when we have the Kabaka birthday run. In that case we should have run yesterday but we weren’t able to run due to two reasons.”

“One, the birthday kit while it’s in Uganda it is still with the customs department, our partners Airtel Uganda are working on the modalities to have the it released. Secondly, the Kabaka is out of the country and he usually flags us off, so for those reasons we didn’t run yesterday.”

On when the birthday run is expected to be held

“We are hoping to have the birthday run somewhere in May and we shall let you know the actual day sooner and after the Kabaka has returned from Europe.”
