The Lord Mayor of Kampala Erias Lukwago has attacked tycoon Hamis Kiggundu over Nakivubo Stadium renovation.
Lukwago says Kiggundu alienated the national facility at zero cost and turned it into a private commercial complex.
“Through sheer artifice, Ham Kiggundu alienated a National facility of monumental value at zero cost, and turned it into a private commercial complex. He now has no qualms unveiling a playground of tennis court size seeking for acclaim as a philanthropist!! Banana Republic indeed! Lukwago tweeted

It’s not only Lukwago who has come out and attacked Kiggundu about the development of the Stadium.
FIFA Security expert Dickson Bond Okello also said that Nakivubo cannot measure up to the International standards

“Threats or blackmail can’t intimidate me from speaking the truth. The so called $150 million dollar Nakivubo Stadium is fake, substandard, surrounded by shopping arcades, a market, taxi/bus parks and will never measure up to International standards.” Wrote on his social media
Meanwhile, Tycoon Kiggundu has responded to them by stating that he cannot invest $150M into a substandard stadium
“I am not stupid to invest $150M into a substandard stadium. I assure Ugandans that this stadium is at the standards required by FIFA.” The materials we have used are the same as those at Barcelona’s Stadium Camp Nou.”

“Covid-19 halted us and that’s why it has taken us some years to complete it but soon we shall be finishing up and Ugandans will start enjoying games here.” Said Kiggundu.
The Stadium was closed in 2015 and a project to renovate it was announced in 2017 as a collaboration between the Ugandan Government and Ham Enterprises.
