Mandela National Stadium : Construction of Perimeter wall to cost Shs3.8b

The Minister of State for Sports Hamson Obua has officially handed over the Mandela National Stadium Namboole site to the UPDF Engineering brigade to commence the renovation and upgrading of the stadium.

The ceremony was also attended by Member of Parliament Kiira Municipality Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, National Council for Sports General Secretary Bernard Patrick Ogwel, Commander of the UPDF Engineers Brigade Brigadier Besigye Benkunda and Anne Abeja the Chairperson of Mandela Stadium governing board.

Minister Hamson Obua presided over the hand over of Namboole stadium to the UPDF Engineering brigade, Kiira Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda was also in attendance

Obua laid a stone on the perimeter wall and also planted the tree at the function held on Wednesday morning.

“I formally and officially handed over the Mandela National Stadium Namboole site to the UPDF Engineering brigade who will commence works to renovate and upgrade the stadium to international standards.”

The constitution of the perimeter wall will cost Shs3.8b and it is expected to take four months.

Meanwhile, the renovation process of the stadium is expected to be done in nine months.
