As preparations for the Airtel Masaza cup continue, Buwekula have appointed Robert Kafeero aka Kapeero as their new head coach.

Kafeero is the CAF C License holder who also doubles as the head coach of Buganda regional league side Kajjansi United.

He is notably remembered for ejecting Uganda Premier League giants Vipers SC from this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup courtesy of an epic penalty shoot out in the round of 32 at Wankulukuku.

Kafeero and his Kajjansi United charges however lost 1-0 to SC Villa in the subsequent round encounter.

He previously worked with the now defunct Lweza FC and was part of the technical team that led them to the top-flight league in 2014.

His appointment was confirmed after Buwekula controversially missed out on missed out on Simon Ddungu “Dunga” who was unveiled as the new head coach of Mawogola.

Kafeero’s enormous task will be guiding Buwekula to their first ever Masaza Cup triumph. Buwekula’s best performance in this annual tournament is finishing runners up to the eventual winners Bulemeezi in 2012.

Buwekula now join the list of teams that have so far confirmed their coaches for the tournament which is expected to kick off in June if all goes well.

Others are Buddu (Steven Bogere), Kyaggwe (Hussein Mbalangu), Bulemeezi (Simon Peter Mugerwa), Butambala (Emuroni Recoba), Ssingo (Edward Golola), Gomba (Ibrahim Kirya), Kkooki (Sadick Ssempigi), Mawogola (Simon Ddungu “Dunga”), Bululi (Noah Mugerwa), Buvuma (Ikoba Afani) and Busiro (Paul Kiwanuka).

Bulemeezi won the 2019 edition after edging Busiro 1-0 at Namboole thanks to Emmanuel Loki’s header.
