Mauritania name 16 year old in AFCON 2021 preliminary squad

In preparation for their second ever AFCON finals, Mauritania have rung the surprise of the tournament so far by including 16 year old midfielder Beyatt Lekweiry in their 30 man initial squad.

Lekweiry has been part of the nation’s under 20 team despite being only 16 and he was included in the U20 AFCON squad of 2019 despite being only 15 then.

The AS Douyanes offensive midfielder also represented his nation in the U-20 Arab cup that was staged in Saudi Arabia in 2020.

French man Didier Gomes da Rosa announced the 30 man squad which will reduced to to 28.

Mauritania are in group F alongside Mali, Gambia and Tunisia.
