Namboole MD reveals activity that brings in the most income for the stadium

The Managing Director of Mandela National Stadium, Hajji Jamil Ssewanyana has revealed the major source of income for the 40,000 capacity seater stadium.

While appearing on NBS Sport Lunch time sports, Ssewanyana stated that they get more money from churches which is used in the daily running of the activities at the Stadium

“The Stadium is multipurpose, therefore it hosts a variety of events. Those churches give us a lot of money. Yes we have been making money and running the company.” The Stadium is going to make 30 years and so it’s that money that we have been using to run the daily activities at the stadium.”

Ssewanyana has assured Ugandans to expect a modernized stadium after the renovations are done.

“The mission that took me to Namboole is to renovate it. It had old technology and now it’s going to be a smart stadium. The stadium will 100% have seats and for the media they should expect of a tribunal with a capacity of over 150 seats as well as a refurbished press conference room.” I assure Ugandans to expect a modernized stadium once the developments are done.” Said Ssewanyana

Meanwhile, the renovation works received a Shs97b approval with Shs67b released in the supplementary budget.

The parliament recently inspected the ongoing renovations at the stadium.

Mandela National Stadium was built with a grant of US$36 from the people’s Republic of China and officially opened in 1997.
