The Buganda Road Court has remanded the President of the Uganda Netball Federation Babirye Kityo Sarah to Luzira Prison on charges of obtaining 16 million shillings by falsely pretending to take people to United States.

Babirye’s accusers include Sarah Wamala who claims she paid her eight million shillings to take her son overseas and Gloria Kikomeko Nantambi who says she paid Babirye another eight million shillings to take her.

Babirye is jointly charged with a business woman Zainab Namutebi for offences committed in May 2022 in Kampala.

The duo has pleaded not guilty to two counts of obtaining money by false pretences before Grade One magistrate Siena Owomugisha.

They have been remanded to prison until 17th May for purposes of hearing their bail application.

The development comes at time when Babirye was ordered Janet Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports to step aside from his office as Netball President for a period of three months.

This was due to issues concerning governance, accountability of funds and general management of the Uganda Netball Federation.

Besides the accountability and governance issues, one of the Netball players claimed that Babirye confronted and accused her of being in love with her husband Dan Ntale who is also the head of Marketing at Uganda Netball Federation.

Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso is currently serving as the interim president at the Federation.
