Paul Nkata has been appointed as new head coach of Kenya Premier League side Wazito FC until the end of the season.

Nkata comes in to fill the void left by his predecessor Jeff Odongo who was in charge of an interim basis before joining Kakamega Homeboyz as an assistant coach a few days ago.

Until recently, Nkata was coaching Kenya second tier club Muhoroni Youth and almost guided them to a topflight promotion last season.

Before his appointment at Muhoroni, Nkata was named Gor Mahia coach but the club’s announcement was rescinded and German coach Andreas Spier was appointed instead.

Nkata has a legendary status in Kenya having previously coached Tusker, Nairobi City Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz, Bandari and Muhoroni Youth on two stints.

The veteran tactician is most remembered for winning a double for Tusker in 2016.

He was however accused of match fixing during his spell at Kakamega Homeboyz before FIFA ultimately declared him innocent.

His task his to help Wazito navigate the season past relegation. The club currently sits 16th on the table of 18 with nine points from 12 games played.

Nkata will be in charge as Wazito take on Johnathan McKinstry’s Gor Mahia this Tuesday in a rescheduled fixture.
