International University of East Africa’s pursuit of their first win in the Pepsi University Football League faces a difficult hurdle as the host last season’s Runners-Up St. Lawrence University on Friday at Kansanga.
New coach Hassan Wasswa wasn’t happy with the results of his road trip to Gulu after Okot Aaron’s last gasp equalizer denied the ex-Uganda Cranes international victory in an exciting 1-1 draw against Gulu University last week. He is however hopeful that his side can get a positive result against St. Lawrence.
“St. Lawrence are a strong team. They have made it to the finals for two consecutive seasons and have produced many fantastic talents like Kasule Ibrahim and Sematimba Titus,” Wasswa said.
“So they are a good team and they score a lot of goals as they did against Nkumba but I know we can get a result against them,” Wasswa added.
Keeping St. Lawrence quiet in front of goal could prove challenging for IUEA as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five games in the league but Wasswa remains hopeful.
As for St. Lawrence coach, Nnono Davis, the task is to continue with their good start to the season. Having comfortably beaten Nkumba 3-1 in their opening game of the season, Nnono will be looking for another win to help consolidate a position at the top of the table and qualify for the knockout stage for a fourth consecutive season.
“As a team we are comfortable. The boys know what they need to do. We cannot take IUEA for granted especially now that they have an experienced international as their coach but we are confident and I know we shall get the result,” Nnono said
