PSL chairman Irvin Khoza confirmed on Wednesday the kickoff date for the 2020/21 DStv Premiership season.
The new DStv Premiership campaign will commence in 24th October but will be preceded by the MTN8 quarterfinals, with those games slated for the weekend of October 17-18.
The quarterfinals for the MTN8 will see Mamelodi Sundowns play Bloemfontein Celtic in a repeat of the 2020 Nedbank Cup final, Kaizer Chiefs battle Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates play Cape Town City, and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhadila host SuperSport United.

The previous initial date that was issued by the League was 9th October, but FIFA retained October 7-15 as an international week and this has forced the shift by a further week.
“All this was done in making sure that we balance things, as we speak now, we are still waiting for the directives from government.” Because we know we are working under their rules and regulations of the bubble, now the reality is different and fans are now moving, with inter provincial movement having been okayed.”
So, before we do the final planning we are hoping that we get the new directives governing sports going forward, because we cannot be in the bubble again.” Stated Khoza as quoted by Kickoff.

Last season, Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns won the unprecedented domestic treble in a dramatic fashion.
The Brazilians will head into the new season without Pitso Mosimane who ended his eight year tenure as head coach. He left after winning five league titles, three Nedbank Cups, one CAF Champions League and one CAF Super Cup among others.
