Paul Put’s first game in charge of Uganda Cranes ended in a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Friday at Stade Du Municipal in Berkane.

This was the opening game for Uganda Cranes in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

Aguibou Camara gave Guinea the lead in the 10th minute when Salim Jamal failed to deal with his low effort.

Put’s charges restored parity through Fahad Bayo at the half hour mark.

The two sides went into the halftime breather, with the score level.

After the recess, Yunus Sentamu and Timothy Awany replaced Milton Karisa and Bobosi Byaruhanga respectively.

In added time, Guinea snatched a winner through Seydouba Cisse’s strike from the free kick.

Despite the defeat, Cranes head coach Put will be delighted with the performance of Travis Mutyaba who was Uganda’s best performer on the pitch.

The Belgian tactician will hope his side deliver in their next game Group G against Somalia on Tuesday at Stade Du Municipal Stadium.

Somalia suffered a 3-1 defeat to Algeria in their opening game.
Mozambique and Botswana are the other nations in the group.
