She Corporate bag 20,000 USD after falling short of CECAFA glory

Ugandan champions She Corporate were unfortunate to miss out on the coveted slot in the CAF Women’s Champions League group stages after losing 1-0 to Simba Queens in the CECAFA Qualifiers finals.

Kenyan forward Vivian Corazone Aquino scored the solitary goal that made a difference between both sides at the fully packed Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.

Aquino converted from the penalty mark following a foul by Cissy Nakate on Burundian forward Asha Djafari in the penalty area a minute into the second half.

Simba Queens became the second team to win the CECAFA Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers tournament after Kenya’s Vihiga Queens who won the inaugural edition last year in Nairobi.

Simba Queens also bagged a USD 30,000 money prize while the runners up She Corporate bagged 20,000.

Ethiopia’s CBE who beat AS Kigali of Rwanda 3-1 in the third place play off also walked away with USD10,000.

Simba Queens were also boasted by a USD 100,000 donation from the Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu as they head to Morocco for the final tournament later this year.

CBE’s skipper Loza Abera scooped the golden boot while Corazone Aquino was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Simba Queens and Tanzania goalkeeper Gelwa Yona won the Golden Glove after conceding only one goal while AS Kigali took home the Fair Play Award.
