Tanzania’s Simba Queens became the first team to book a place in the semi finals of this year’s CECAFA Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers after beating Uganda’s She Corporate 2-0 in the second Group B game in Dar es Salaam.
Kenyan forward Vivian Corozone Aquino and Fallone Pambani Kuzoya scored the two goals for the Simba Queens.
Aquino opened the scores from a free kick which was not well dealt by goalkeeper Daphine Nyayenga in the 21st minute.
She Corporate pushed for a leveller but it was Simba Queens who got the second goal through Kuzoya following a sloppy defending from the Ugandan champions in the 61st minute.
The result meant Simba Queens moved to six points and ultimately qualified for the semi finals while She Corporate remain second with three points.
South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars also have three points but have a (0) goal difference compared to She Corporate’s (+4).
Yei Joint Stars beat Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine 6-0 in the other game played on the day. Ugandan born midfielder Mariam Musibika Lasuba scored a brace while the other four goals were scored by striker Luka Deborah Alworonga.
The CECAFA Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers will continue today with two games in Group A. CBE of Ethiopia take on Burundi’s Fofila PF while AS Kigali face Zanzibar’s Warrior Queens.
