STANBIC UGANDA CUP: Mbale Heroes storm quarters after shocking UPL’s Police FC

Bosco Kanyike late strike sent Mbale Heroes into the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after a 1-0 win over Police in the round of 16 tie at Lugogo on Sunday.

Kanyike who came in as a second half substitute struck for the Eastern Region side three minutes from time to send the traveling fans into a bouncing frenzy.

Mbale who are two time competition winners (1976 and 1999) prevail to the quarterfinals for the first time in 23 years.

The visitors looked the better side throughout the contest and were deserved winners.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City advanced to the last eight after a comfortable 4-0 victory over Iganga Young at the Kakyeka Stadium.

Goals from Henry Kitegenyi, Seiri Arigumaho, Solomon Okwalinga and Ronald Otti sent the Ankole Lions into the quarters.

Mbale Heroes and Mbarara City join Vipers SC and Booma FC who already progressed.

Action will resume on Monday as Wakiso Giants host UPDF FC at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
