Stanbic Uganda Cup: Vipers shootout resilient Jinja North as Kitegenyi sends Mbarara City into the last 16

Last season’s runners-up Vipers SC once again needed a penalty shootout against Big League side Jinja North to progress to the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup.

Just like in the Round of 64 were penalties enabled them to go past Kitara Region side Bujumbura United, the Venoms went through to the Round of 16 thanks to a 7-6 penalty win over Jinja North United after a goalless draw at the Kyabazinga Stadium in Jinja.

Big League side Mbarara City were the only team to win in normal time after they eliminating Eastern Region side Tororo Admin 1-0 courtesy of a Henry Kitegenyi second half penalty.

Mbarara City advanced to the last 16

Soltilo Bright Stars also advanced the hard way at the expense of a ten-man Mbale Heroes.

The encounter at Mbale Stadium ended 1-1 in normal time before the visitors prevailed 3-4 on penalties.

Emmanuel Loki scored for Bright Stars before Mukisa Junior levelled matters for hosts Mbale Heroes.

Vipers, Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbarara City join Wakiso Giants and Kitara into the Round of 16.

Action in the Stanbic Uganda Cup will resume on Thursday with two games.
