Standard Chartered Bank injects Shs5M in USPA Media Excellence Awards

Standard Chartered Bank Uganda has offered Shs5M towards the Uganda Sports Press Association Media Excellence Awards 2021.

The USPA Executive Committee announced the development on Friday.

Standard Chartered Bank Uganda Corporate Affairs Manager Cynthia Mpanga stated that any form of contribution towards recognising sports journalists us critical to the development of the media sector

“The USPA Media Excellence Awards are a great opportunity for sports Journalists be acknowledged for the exceptional effort in delivering sports information in the country.”

USPA President Patrick Kanyomozi revealed that new initiative will change sports journalism in the country

“We are happy to have our long term partners Standard Chartered Bank on board which is continuation of long relationship that goes over a decade especially with our annual road safety campaign. Their contribution is very timely as we get closer to the event that will definitely change the face of Sports  Journalism in Uganda.” said Kanyomozi.

Meanwhile, the inagural awards are slated for Wednesday, 15th December, 2021 at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.

Eight winners from right categories will receive a custom designed plaque and a Cash prize of Shs1M each.

The eight awards categories

•The Bashir Khan Lugodo Award – Best Sports Feature (TV, Radio, Print and Online)

•James Opoka Award – Best Sports News Report (Radio and TV)

•Edirisa Mayanja Njuki Award – Best Sports News Report (Print)

•John Bugembe Ssenkugube Award – Best Sports Photograph

•Samuel Wossita Award – Best Digital Sports Production (Websites, E-Journals, Podcasts)

•Kevin Aliro Award – Investigate Sports Report

•Paul Waibale Snr Award – Sports Column Writing

•Andrew Luwandagga Award – Lifetime in Service
