Singida Big Stars 1-0 Ihefu FC

Shafik Batambuze’s first half goal was enough to inspire Singida Big Stars to a 1-0 win over Ihefu FC in the Tanzania Premier League.

Batambuze headed home perfectly from a corner kick delivered by Brazilian forward Rodrigo Figueredo in the 17th minute of the game.

Batambuze’s first goal of the season came 10 minutes after his teammate Meddie Kagere had missed an opportunity to put Singida Big Stars upfront when he missed a penalty.

Ugandan right back Nicholas Wadada played for Ihefu FC while his teammate Cleo James Ssetuba was not part of the match day squad.

Batambuze became the third Ugandan to score a goal in the Tanzanian league this season. Other scorers are Joseph Ssemujju (Mbeya City) and Kagera Sugar’s Diego Hamis Kiiza.

Singida Big Stars, also home to coaches Mattia Lule and Steven Billy Kiggundu, are now 5th on the table with 14 points.

Ihefu FC currently sit 14th (second from bottom) with five points garnered from eight league outings.

Singida Big Stars will host Coastal Union while Ihefu will face Azam FC in their respective subsequent matches.
