The rise and rise of Kiyinda Boys, one of the lowest ranked sides in the Uganda cup round of 16

Buganda Region League side Kiyinda Boys located in Mityana town is one of the sides that has attracted much attention in this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Founded by the Kiyinda Mityana Roman Catholic Church five years ago with the aim of nurturing and helping talented youths in Mityana. Their motto states, One Team, One Ambition”.

Kiyinda Boys on the rise

The Mityana based side has already secured a place into the last 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after eliminating Uganda Premier league side Gaddafi and Kigezi Homeboyz in the round of 64 and 32 respectively.

Kiyinda Boys is currently second in Katonga group of the Buganda Region League with 27 points they have garnered in 11 games and two adrift of leaders Buwambo United.

Reasons behind the team’s rise

Being a Catholic church founded team, Rev.Fr Simon Peter Kyambadde is the club President and his leadership is based on vision and transparency has been key to the team’s success.

Unlike other regional league sides, every player who is named as man of the match receives Shs100000 from the fans as a token of appreciation.

The technical Team

The team is under the stewardship of Simon Peter Ddungu alias Dunga.

The tactician boasts of massive experience having previously coached in the prestigious Masaza Cup competition at Gomba, Mawogola, Busiro and Ssingo. He won the 2017 Masaza Cup trophy with Gomba and guided Ssingo to the 2022 semifinals of the competition.

He also managed at Mbale Heroes in the Eastern Regional League before joining the Mityana outfit. He works with Simon Ggita as his assistant coach

Key players

The team’s spin is made up of 2022 Masaza Cup top scorer Amuli Mukasa (captain), experienced Steven Dube Ssebuufu, forward Joseph Ssewali scorer of the all important goal against Gaddafi FC.

Adoa Bright the current regional league top scorer with 16 goals in 11 games and right back Ssenoga William formerly at Buddo SS and attacking midfieder Kakooza Godfrey who has the most assists for the side this term.

Kakooza has also featured for Ssingo Ssaza team in the previous three editions.

Kiyinda Boys has produced players such as Derrick Were currently at Uganda Premier league side UPDF FC, left back George Kaddu features for Wakiso Giants and Ronald Ssempala (Bright Stars).

The team’s skipper Amuli Mukasa has also attracted topflight sides SC Villa, Express FC and URA FC.

Kiyinda Boys will be targeting to prevail to the Big League and continue with their impressive run in the Stanbic Uganda Cup this campaign.
