UCF President Mwaka targets glory for team Uganda at the Open Chess Championship

Uganda Chess Federation President Emmanuel Mwaka is optimistic that team Uganda will excel at the 2022 Uganda Open Chess Championship

“We are using the Championship as a qualifier for the Olympiad in Russia and we don’t expect many surprises.” The Olympiad is the biggest team’s event in the world, so everyone will be aiming to make it.”

“We are optimistic that team Uganda will win the event despite competition for players from other countries.”

The Uganda Open Chess Championship has previously been held in 2017 and 2019. Due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 turmoil the event was halted.

Countries such as Scotland, South Sudan, Kenya and Somalia have all been represented.

The event officially kicked off today at Mackinnon suites in Kampala and on Monday, 21st February will be the Prize and giving ceremony and closing ceremony.
