The Uganda Hippos staged a comeback to defeat South Sudan 2-1 and subsequently clinched the U20 CECAFA tournament for the second successive time.

The final was played at the Al Hilal’s Blue Jewel Stadium as the tournament successfully climaxed.

South Sudan took an early lead through striker Felix Abishai who tapped home from close range in the 15th minute.

The Hippos dominated play from the onset but instead opted to shooting from distance.

Isa Bugembe equalized for the Hippos with a powerful low shot from just outside the box in the 22nd minute.

The winning goal of the game was scored by Wakiso Giants offensive midfielder Tito Ssematimba at the hour mark.

Ssematimba capitalized on a goal mouth scramble to slot the ball into the net and ultimately won the championship.

Ssematimba was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament while Abdu Magada was also crowned the best goalkeeper.

Uganda Hippos were also the winners of the Fair Play Award.

Both Uganda and South Sudan came into the final having already qualified for the U20 AFCON tournament to be held in Egypt.
