Kampala Queens were officially eliminated from this year’s CAF Women Champions League Qualifiers after finishing third on the Group A table.

This follows Buja Queens’ 2-1 win over Djibouti’s FAD FC in the final group game at Njeru.

The result meant that the Burundi champions finished second with nine points while CBE FC emerged as the group winners with 10 points from four games.

Kampala Queens garnered seven points from the four games played, having won twice, lost and drawn the other.

Buja Queens labored to win the decisive game despite facing the weakest team in the group. It took them 75 minutes to break the deadlock through defender Ruth Ingosi who scored from close range following a well delivered corner kick.

FAD surprisingly equalized through Nadia Noor in the 85th minute but Topister Situma capitalized on a goalkeeping howler to restore the lead for the Burundian side three later.

Kampala Queens became the first club from the host nation to face an elimination at the group stage since the inauguration of the qualification tournament in 2021.

CBE will now renew acquaintances with Kenya’s Vihiga Queens in the semi finals in what will also be a repeat of the inaugural final.

The other second semi final will have Buja Queens versus Tanzania’s JKT Queens who finished as winners of Group B.

The semi finals will be played on Sunday while the final will be held on Wednesday 30th August at Njeru.
