UPDF, Impala Hill open up Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32 phase

Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC will take on Kampala Regional League side Impala Hill FC in the first game of the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32.

The game will be played at the Bombo Military grounds at 3pm and will be live on UBC TV.

Coming into this fixture, UPDF drew 1-1 with Vipers in their last Uganda Premier League game while their opponents Impala Hill lost 2-1 to NEC FC.

The army side is currently 9th on the UPL table with 22 points from 18 games played.

Impala Hill on the other hand are second on the Scorpion Group table of the Kampala Regional League with 22 points from 10 games.

To reach this stage, Impala Hill beat Big League side Proline 5-3 on spot kicks following a 1-1 full-time draw at Old Kampala grounds.

Youngster Shamran Kamya, acquired on loan from Soltilo Bright Stars, made the difference by saving Yusuf Mukisa’s penalty.

UPDF beat Soroti FC 3-0 in the round of 64 thanks to goals from youngsters Yasin Sabir, Phillip Taban and Rogers Mugisha.

Frank Mulindwa the Impala Hill coach says they will give in all despite facing a top-flight side,

” We are playing against a Uganda Premier League side (UPDF FC) and we are in the regional league but I feel we are on the same level since we are facing off in the same cup. We will not take it for granted and we will go all out and make sure we win this game.” Mulindwa said.

” Our target in the Stanbic Uganda Cup is to go as far as we can.” He added.

Goalkeeper Kamya, newly acquired striker Michael Lubowa, former Proline utility man Solomon Wafula and Joshua Kazoora are some of the players Mulindwa is expected to rely on.

UPDF, coached by Brian Ssenyondo, will be hoping to become the first team to storm the round of 16 with a win over a third tier side.

Ssenyondo is expected to rely on his offensive department for answers in this one. Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Frank Yiga, Ezekiel Katende, Okello Donato are some of the players expected to be key for the army side.

The other Stanbic Uganda Cup game to be played on same time will be one of the two round of 64 encounters that was not played and will involve holders Vipers who made a long trip to take on Kigezi Homeboyz in Kabale.
