URA go second after seeing off Villa at Ndejje

URA FC are now second on the Uganda Premier League table with 42 points, same as KCCA but with a superior goal difference of +24.

The Tax Collectors beat SC Villa 3-1 in the only game played on Sunday at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.

Stand in captain Said Kyeyune, league top scorer Steven Dese Mukwala and second half substitute Ibrahim Dada Juma were on target to ensure a comfortable win for the home side.

Villa head coach Petros Koukouras shockingly fielded defender Shafik Bakaki as a striker ahead of Isaac Ogwang the club’s only recognized and available striker. Travis Mutyaba also started on the bench while Amir Kakomo assumed a more advanced role.

The Jogoos tempted to score through Umar Lutalo and Benson Muhindo but James Alitho rose to the challenge.

Kyeyune broke the deadlock with a free kick that took a deflected off Gavin Kizito’s foot and beat goalkeeper Martin Senkooto in the 33rd minute.

The second half saw Villa switch Bakaki back to defense as Kenneth Semakula went off limping.

URA on the other hand handed a debut to midfielder Jackson Nunda who was introduced at the hour mark for Moses Seruyidde. The lanky midfielder had not kicked a ball since being signed last season due to injury.

With the game hanging in balance, Mukwala took matters by himself, won possession at the center line and made a solo dribble past the Villa defense to thump the ball past Senkooto and made it 2-0.

Dada Juma had an opportunity to make it 3-0 soon after but he failed to score from close range with the keeper off already beat by Mukwala.

He then made amends for his point blank miss and made it 3-0 in the 85th minute when he finished perfectly from a brilliant interplay between Mukwala, Nunda and Viane Sekajugo.

Villa pulled one back from Sadam Juma who converted a penalty after Amir Kakomo was toppled in the box by Benjamin Nyakoojo in the 90th minute.

Villa remained 12th with 22 points and will visit Wakiso Giants in their subsequent fixture on Wednesday 30th March.

URA will host Arua Hill on the same day.
