Vipers begin title defense with frustrating draw against Bright Stars

David GOMBE

Vipers SC started their title defense with a goalless stalemate against Bright Starts at St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The Venoms failed to breakdown Asaph Mwebaze’s organized side.

Mwebaze was returning to the Uganda Premier league touchline since 2019.

Vipers best chance in the first period fell to their talisman Yunus Sentamu whose header off a quality cross from Abdu Lumala went over the bar.

Lumala who was making his Uganda Premier league debut put up a great performance.

The winger also forced Bright Stars custodian Hassan Matovu into a save.

In the closing stages of the game, Murushid Juuko had his header also saved by Matovu.

Bright Stars held on as they earned a vital point at the home of Champions.

Meanwhile, Vipers who were frustrated on the day will turn focus to the CAF Champions league encounter against Congolese giants TP Mazembe on Sunday, 9th October.
